Quick note: this uses the classic reorder-point formula, which assumes fairly steady demand. It's a great manual estimate. Real sales are lumpy and seasonal โ€” handling that automatically (per SKU) is exactly what we're building StockPilot to do. How the reorder point formula works

Your reorder point is simply the stock level at which you should place a new order โ€” calculated so that fresh stock arrives just before you run out. There are two pieces: the stock you'll sell while you wait for the supplier (lead-time demand), plus a buffer for the unexpected (safety stock).

Reorder point = (Average daily sales ร— Lead time) + Safety stock

How much should I actually order?

The reorder point tells you when; the order quantity tells you how much. A simple, practical approach is to order enough to cover a chosen period (say 30 days), then round up to your supplier's minimum order quantity (MOQ):

It's a handy stopgap while Stocky winds down. The catch with any spreadsheet: you have to keep the daily-sales numbers current and remember to check it. Frequently asked questions

What is a reorder point, in plain terms?
It's the stock level that should trigger your next purchase order. Set it right and new stock lands just before you sell out โ€” so you avoid both stockouts and ordering too early.
How do I find my average daily sales?
Take the units sold over a recent, representative period and divide by the number of days. A 30-day window is a good default. In Shopify, Analytics โ†’ Reports โ†’ Sales by product gives you the units sold per SKU.
How much safety stock should I keep?
A common starting point is 7โ€“14 days of cover. Use more if your supplier is unreliable or your sales are spiky, less if both are steady and predictable. The calculator lets you try different buffers instantly.
Is this the same as Stocky's reorder suggestions?

What's the limitation of this formula?
It assumes steady demand and a steady lead time. If your sales are highly seasonal or your supplier's timing varies a lot, a single static reorder point will be off at the extremes โ€” too high in slow months, too low in peak. That's where proper demand forecasting (what StockPilot is being built for) helps, by adjusting the numbers per SKU over time.
